BCA Black Lives Matter

Statement of Solidarity

The Brookline Commission for the Arts supports all visual and performing artists and arts organizations in our town by offering grants made possible by the Massachusetts Cultural Council and by promoting the many cultural events happening in Brookline throughout the year via our website (www.brooklinearts.org) and social media. We believe that the arts, in all of its forms, whether it is music, poetry, painting or theater, contribute to our quality of life and teach us empathy, while helping us understand other people’s points of view, which is critical at this moment in our country’s history.

To the artists of Brookline, whether you are amateur or professional, a performer or visual artist, no matter what race you are, we support you. We believe that you and your work help create diversity and strengthen our community.

To the Brookline community – many of our town’s art organizations are providing virtual classes, performances and talks. Please visit the virtual arts and culture page on our website at
www.brooklinearts.org. The Brookline Commission for the Arts also supports Black Lives Matter and we encourage you to learn more about racism and support black-owned businesses.

If you are looking to start, or continue, your anti-racism education, Brookline public librarians have compiled a list of books and films
here. To help support black owned businesses in Brookline and beyond - find a list here.

Finally, the Brookline Commission for the Arts encourages a membership with a diversity of ideas and perspectives, and does not discriminate on the basis of race or color, religion, national origin or ancestry, gender, sexual orientation or gender identity.
