Abilities Dance Firebird Part 2

Abilities Dance Boston presents: Firebird Part 2 (June 2026)

  • Fri, June 19 8:00 PM

  • Sat, Jun 20 08:00 PM

  • Sun, Jun 21 02:00 PM

Abilities Dance Boston is thrilled to present Vel'Fyra: Firebird Part 2. This is a continuation from a completely reimagined Firebird ballet that premiered May 2021. This ballet has been written and choreographed by Founder/Executive and Artistic DIrector Ellice Patterson with a completely original score by Music & Operations Director Andrew Choe. The core theme includes the central question "Once the Firebird is liberated from the Prince, what if the Firebird saves herself and not everyone else?" From there comes an avalanche of questions across universes. This performance includes animation by Will Machado, aerial silks by Ellice Patterson, and more. This family-friendly performance is not a performance you will want to miss, especially for our Sunday matinee to encourage younger audiences to attend. This will be at a new venue of BU's Booth Theater. We can't wait to celebrate the liberatory themes of Juneteenth that will resonate throughout this ballet.

As a note, this year we are only livestreaming the June 19th performance during its performance time. Once the performance ends, it will be unavailable for viewing so please plan accordingly. If you are unable to attend our June performance, there will be a September 18 - 20, 2026 performance at Boston's Strand Theater.

Due to the various artistic elements in this performance and the many artists and administrators involved to get this performance created, we have increased our general admission to $45 for both in person and virtual performances. We still have free/sliding scale tickets so we can continue to remain accessible to our community. No refunds will be given out under any circumstances.

Considerations made to maximize accessibility for all include:

  • Mask mandatory stipulation

  • Audio descriptions for blind/low-vision audiences

  • Captions and ASL interpretations for deaf/hard of hearing audiences

  • No flashing/strobe lights/sudden light changes/sudden noises

  • Attendees may bring headphones/ear plugs if easily overstimulated

  • A hall outside of the theatre space is available for audience members seeking a break

  • No concession stand/food and drink provided

  • Attendees may bring in outside water

  • Unlimited free tickets for live and live streaming audiences are available for those who can't afford to purchase a ticket

  • If further accommodations are needed or more information, please email abilitiesdanceboston@gmail.com

Rehearsal Director and Dancer: Dara Capley

Dancers: Amaal Ladha, Claire Lane, Katie Logan, and Ellice Patterson

Games!

  • Saturday, May 9, 2026

  • 7:00 PM  9:00 PM

  • St Paul's Episcopal Church (map)

It’s a night of whimsy with music inspired by games. In Mozart’s Musikalisches Würfelspiel, dice rolls from our audience will determine the structure of the piece! We’ll dust off our old, battery powered, primary colored Simon game to perform Nicole Lizée’s Simon Interlude and play selections from György Kurtág’s collection of Játékok or quite literally “games” in Hungarian. Satie’s humorous and eccentric pieces about sports were conceived for a “haute couture artist's book" while Mozart’s iconic Kegelstatt Trio was written while lawn bowling! Winsor is excited to welcome composer and soprano Kate Soper to perform her piece Life’s Work, featuring text by Virgil, diary entries, Markov chains, and board game rules. The New Yorker describes Kate as "one of the great originals of her generation.”

Program:
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart Musikalisches Würfelspiel
Erik Satie from Sports et divertissements
Kate Soper Life’s Work
György Kurtág from Játékok
Nicole Lizée Simon Interlude for Milton Bradley® Simon and ensemble
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart Kegelstatt Trio

Performers:
Gabriela Díaz violin/viola
Rane Moore clarinet
Heng-Jin Park piano
Kate Soper soprano
