Grant Application Guide

Brookline Commission for the Arts Priorities

1. Cultural impact: Arts and humanities projects that contribute to the culture and vitality of Brookline with the venue and/or artist being located in Brookline. We aim to fund projects that represent a balanced mix of types of arts/cultural events.

2. Accessibility: Programs that are available and accessible to all of the general public (not just one demographic), either free of charge or priced to be affordable for as wide an audience as possible.

3. Diversity: Applicants and programs that embrace the diversity of Brookline, especially those that represent the voices, experiences, and communities of historically marginalized groups in Brookline.

4. Local Arts & Cultural Organizations: Projects from or that partner with Brookline-based non-profit arts and cultural organizations and local individuals who work in the arts or humanities.

A hallmark of the Local Cultural Council (LCC) Program is the emphasis on local autonomy and decision making. LCCs are free to make funding decisions that strive to meet the particular needs and priorities of their community within the parameters of the broad state guidelines. Each council determines its own local eligibility requirements based on community input. These guidelines are incorporated into their council priorities and published on the Massachusetts Cultural Council's (MCC) website and below.

For reference applicants can view grants awarded in previous years plus typical dollar amounts on this website, and on the MCC website.

All projects that are consistent with our mission will be considered:

The Brookline Commission for the Arts supports and promotes a diverse range of artists, cultural organizations, and events in the Town of Brookline, Massachusetts for the benefit of all in the community. This includes soliciting proposals and distributing funds from the town and from the Massachusetts Cultural Council, in accordance with their terms, to foster access, inclusion, engagement, and collaboration between individuals, private groups, and public organizations in support of the arts and humanities.

Based on feedback from the community, grant funding will be prioritized based on the proposal review criteria listed below.
